Poplar Tree Garden Centre News

New RHS Chelea Flower Show Award winning Garden on display

Poplar Tree Garden Centre is proud to welcome the addition of an exact replica of the RHS Chelsea Flower show award winning artificial grass garden.

The artificial grass garden was constructed by Easigrass. Poplar Tree Garden Centre Durham are now the official distributers and installers of Easigrass in the North East of England covering Newcastle Durham & Sunderland.

Artificial grass or synthetic turf has become increasingly popular in a domestic setting. Fake grass or artificial turf has many benefits over natural grass in that it is virtually maintenance free, looks like real grass, looks fresh and new 365 days of the year and you can use it all year round. Easigrass have many products on offer including the award winning Mayfair Easigrass range. The Easigrass available on display stands at Poplar Tree Garden Centre costs as little as £26.99m2 and has an 8 year guarentee.

We expect all Easigrass products to last up to 15 - 20 years in a domestic situation.

Artificial Grass and Easigrass in particluar is great for areas that are hard to cut, maintain, or where there is no sunlight, or dogs and children have created muddy patches.

Greenhouse Preparation in February

General February Jobs in the Garden

Secateurs - If you have finished all the major tasks, such as digging over, creating leafmould heaps etc you will not have a lot to do in February but if like most of us you are scrambling to keep up, this is your last chance before spring.

Double check the greenhouse, ensure the glass is firmly secured and replace any cracked panes etc. If you’ve not managed to give it a thorough clean, now is the time before it is pressed into service.

Check last year’s potato bed for any volunteers (left over small potatoes) and remove them to avoid passing on disease problems and blight.

You’re going to be using your pots and seed trays next, so this is a good opportunity to wash out and sterilise them so you seedlings will get off to the best possible start. If you havent got any then dont worry. They are very cheap. An unheated propogator will certainly help and for .........Read More

Poplar Tree Garden Centre Continue Support of Future Business Magnates Durham

Paul Curry Poplar Tree Garden CentreFor the second year running, Poplar Tree Garden Centre (with the support of Brambledown) are offering business partnering to a school in the 2010 Future Business Magnates run by Durham County Council. This year, Paul Curry who is Business Development Manager at Brambledown and Poplar Tree Garden Centre attends regular meetings with Durham Federation (a federation between Fyndoune Community College & Durham Community Business College) in preperation for their monthly challenges throughout the year. Each school must develop a business idea and go through the process of devising a product, sourcing finance and marketing and selling their product by proposing a business model. Last year Paul Curry offered Business partnering to Easington Community College as they finished high up the league table.

Future Business Magnates is a fun competition with an important business message and opportunity. Now in its fifth year, the initiative was originally designed for year 8 students from the Durham City area. However, such has been the success of the scheme that schools throughout County Durham are now competing and this year the number of entrants has risen to sixteen.

Launched in 2005 by the late and much loved Sir Bobby Robson, Future Business Magnates continues to assist schools to deliver the enterprise, creativity and key skills set down under the education agenda at local, regional and national levels.

The competition provides an outlet for schools to encourage entrepreneurial attainment and to promote social and economic awareness amongst its students.
